Snake demons Bai Suzhen (Eva Huang) and Qingqing (Charlene Choi) live in the forest with other animal demons. One day, Suzhen plays a trick on herbalist Xu Xian (Raymond Lam) and causes him to nearly drown. After saving his life, Suzhen realizes that she has fallen in love with Xu Xian, a fact that will not sit well with stern Buddhist monk Fahai (Jet Li). A righteous sorcerer who strongly believes in observing the law of nature, Fahai spends his days capturing demons who have invaded the human world with his trusty disciple Neng Ren.
